Dr. Rasul Ramji
Founder & Creative Visionary
Dr. Rasul Ramji is a Houston-based academic turned filmmaker, writer, and producer, best known as the creator and director of Once Upon a Dream – A Tale of Fated Love (2025). Founder of Escape Films USA LLC, Dr. Ramji transitioned from a distinguished career in education and management to cinematic storytelling that blends music, mysticism, and human connection. He is also the author of the novel Once Upon a Dream, upon which the feature film is based.
His work reflects a lifelong passion for exploring destiny, love, and the spiritual forces that unite souls across cultures and time. Drawing from his East African heritage, global travels, and academic insights, Dr. Ramji continues to craft stories that are both intimate in emotion and epic in vision. He currently resides in Houston, Texas, where he continues to develop international film and literary projects.
A Multifaceted Journey
Originally from Kenya, East Africa, Dr. Ramji’s early career focused on producing disease-resistant varieties of coffee plants. His international experience includes developing methods to control trachoma in children and young adults in Sindh, Pakistan; evaluating health and housing conditions in rural areas of Kabul, Afghanistan; and improving agriculture methods, livestock production, and marketing strategies for farmers in India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Most recently, Dr. Ramji was the director of a multidisciplinary practice including chiropractic, neurology, orthopedics, and physical therapy in Houston, Texas
Transition to Filmmaking
Inspired by his own experiences and a desire to explore the deeper connections between people, Dr. Ramji ventured into the world of storytelling. His debut novel, Once Upon a Dream – A Tale of Fated Love, is a captivating romance that spans from Texas to Spain, weaving elements of mystery, magic, and resilience into an unforgettable journey. The novel has been praised for its emotional depth and lyrical beauty, earning accolades from readers and critics alike.
